To the 1/8 of an inch is only necessary if you are working in tight spaces.  When measuring for your curtain rod, be sure to include space for your curtain stack back past your window trim on each side for this large diameter rod, depending on how far you would like your curtains to stack off of the window.

Measuring Terms:

Order "S" - the standard rod width when placing your order.
Keep in mind "TT"  (tip to tip) width - will be your final width, with finials.
The standard rod width is the length used to order your curtain rod.
The tip to tip width is needed to make sure your finials are not running into other objects, such as walls, other windows, doors, artwork, etc.
