While French style rods may look similar, there are vast differences among workrooms in quality, strength and design.

There are 2 predominant styles French Rods Fabricated on the market.

1. Prefabricated "elbows" with welded back plates are paired with a custom cut straight center section of drapery rod. These elbows feature an internal splice that allows for smooth joint that rings can glide over seamlessly.		2. Poles are bent at the time of order. The finished poles are mounted to a separate back plate that is attached to the wall.
PROs -Every pole is completely uniform. -Production is often a bit faster.	Cons -Will be a slight seam at every joint	PROs -Seamleass appearance from the front of the rod -Often custom returns are available	Cons -May not be as strong structurally - may require a center bracket -May have longer lead times -Great opportunity for irregularity during fabrication.

How Strong are French Rods?

Can it hold my drapes?
Can it span my window without additional brackets?
These are questions we are asked every day. At first many french rods look the same, but that is far from the truth! Each workroom has it's pros and cons.

Generally, speaking lower priced French Rods such as Atelier Collection, Custom Select or THC Collection are made from thinner gauge steel and will require a center bracket for spans over 42 inches. For many applications, these rods are a perfectly serviceable and economical options and most feature a limited number of high quality plated metal finishes.

For greater flexibility in back plates, finishes and sizes consider the Iron Art and Italian collections. These rods can typically span ~60 inches with no center bracket and are available in a range of sizes from 3/4" - 2" diameters. Iron Art offers 40+ hand painted finishes while the Italian Collection is high quality plated metal.

For luxury designs and large spans that require architectural strength consider our Ona Structural Collection or Le Fer Longspan Collection.
-Ona features the thickest gauge steel poles on the market often used in luxury homes and hotels with 50 custom finish options.
-Le Fer features an internally reinforced airplane grade, aluminum pole for stiffness making it one of the lightest & strongest options available couples with a silicon insert for smooth ring glide.

Due to New FedEx and UPS shipping restrictions all rod sections over 96 inches will require an internal splice and need a center support bracket(s)

IMPORTANT SHIPPING INFORMATION

Rods over 96 inches in length will be cut for shipping. The splice will be at the center of the rod to be concealed and supported by the center bracket. Inquire about internal splice and pass through brackets.
