The sheer curtain filter light, provide privacy during the day and generally become part of the background. The overdrapery is often the focal point of your decorative window treatments.
A double rod set usually includes two curtain rods, two finials, two end caps and special "double" brackets (quantity of brackets will vary according to manufacturers' specifications.) Double rods can be either metal or wood poles.
Advantages of a double curtain rod set
- Allows you to maintain your privacy while preserving your view with sheers.
- Allows many different design "looks" for your window treatments.
- Less expensive than purchasing two separate curtain rod sets.
- Provides a clean, seamless, layered look to your window treatments.
The rear curtain rod is often but not always a smaller diameter. End caps are used instead of finals keeping the rear pole hidden. This rear curtain rod supports the undertreatment which is usually a sheer, light filtering curtain. You may also place your drapes on the rear rod and use a pole mounted scarf on the front rod.
The front rod may be larger in diameter, features ornate finials on the ends and is designed to be the focal point of the hardware. The front rod is used for overdraperies which may be either stationary side panels or fully functional draperies.
Note: Because of the weight of two rods and draperies, we recommend that you only use high quality forged curtain brackets. In the case of wider windows, extra center support brackets may be needed. We do recommend never using adjustable brackets for a double rod set.
Inquire if double "bypass center brackets" are available. When used with C-rings, these unique brackets allow curtains to pass over brackets.
